The South American Games made in Medellin, Colombia, 2010, established a framework. With excellent sports facilities, some with Olympic level, the event left a legacy not only to Colombians. To the side of the Pan American Games Rio 2007, the event represented a great step in the consolidation of a new era of sport in South America. In total, 15 countries participated. The 14 days of emotion registered a record number of 3.637 athletes. Disputed competitions in 31 modalities (24 Olympic and Pan American seven) in 47 sports facilities, being 29 permanent and 11 temporary. The sports contested were archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, hándbol, Baseball, Bowling, boxing, Regatta, biking, hipismo, fencing, water skiing, football, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, lifting weights, struggles, swimming, ornamental breaks, synchronized swimming, aquatic marathon, water polo, speed skating, rowing, squash, softball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, triathlon, sailing and volleyball.
